Dispute Resolution; Hormones and the Law; Comparative Legal Studies (focus on kinship and families); Children’s Rights; LGTBIQ+ and the law; Dance/Law.
Additional Professional Information
Maria Federica is qualified non-practising lawyer, trained mediator and former dancer. Before undertaking her doctorate, she practised as family lawyer, and worked for Save the Children Italy where she specialised in children’s rights. She is co-director of the Centre for Cultures of Reproduction, Technologies and Health at University of Sussex; co-editor for EUP of the book series Comparative Legal Studies, Society and Justice; co-editor of the journal Amicus Curiae and member of the Editorial Board of The Journal of Comparative Law . She is Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. For her research on mediation and non-heteronormative families she has been awarded the National Mediation Award for Diversity and Inclusion 2022. She was finalist in the 2020 OUP Law Teacher of the Year Award. In bridging her experiences as dancer and legal scholar, in January 2024 she has designed and launched a participative dance-practice based interdisciplinary learning and well-being initiative on Dance in Law, Politics and Sociology. She also combines academic interests with activism.
