Research Interests

Labour/employment law; regional integration (the European Union and the African Union); labour law, trade and development; human rights, equality and multiculturalism; economic sociology of law; socio-legal studies; law and the humanities.

Additional Professional Information

Diamond Ashiagbor is currently Professor of Law at the University of Kent having previously been Professor of Law and Director of Research at IALS University of London, and Professor of Labour Law at SOAS, University of London. She has held visiting positions at Columbia Law School, Melbourne Law School, and Osgoode Hall.

Her current research examines race and the colonial origins of contemporary labour markets and labour law. She has served as Director of Research in SOAS 2010-16, IALS 2016-18, and Kent Law School, 2021-2023. She has been heavily involved in training and mentoring of PhD researchers and early career scholars e.g. Harvard Law School Institute for Global Law and Policy, Stellenbosch 2023 and Cape Town 2016; British Academy-funded Socio-Legal Journals Global South Writing Workshops, Accra Ghana, 2023, 2019 and 2018; King’s College London Transnational Law Summer Institute 2016 and 2015.
