Description

As part of the Being Human Festival, this ‘author meets reader’ session features Professor Aleardo Zanghellini of the University of Reading School of Law, in conversation with the Director of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Professor Carl Stychin.

Professor Zanghellini has published widely on legal philosophy and on law, gender and sexuality. He is the author of The sexual constitution of political authority: the 'trials' of same sex desire (Routledge 2015), in which he demonstrates the resilience and adaptability of cultural beliefs in the incompatibility between public office and male same-sex desire. Professor Zanghellini is also the author of the novel, The Spellbinders, an alternative historical epic which reimagines the relationship of Edward II, Piers Gaveston and Queen Isabella. The novel has been described as reaching ‘heights of ecstatic joy through a tender, gay sensibility’. In this event, fiction and theory collide as we explore new worlds in which authority and desire might be reimagined.

Chair: Professor Carl Stychin, IALS Director
